ATOs are organizations that have been assessed and approved by an Exam Institute, and duly licensed by The Accreditor to run accredited ITIL training courses and administer ITIL examinations.
ATOs are not allowed to offer any exams -either Foundation or Intermediate- to anyone but their own trainees. They are not allowed to offer Foundation exams to candidates who have not received any prior training. Those candidates who wish to take a Foundation exam without prior training can do so through an EI’s public exam scheme, an AEO or a test centre (i.e. Pearson VUE, Prometric).
An ATO that wishes to offer exams to candidates who have completed training in a different training organization can only do so by also applying for the Approved Examination Organization (AEO) status. In this case they must pay both ATO and AEO IPR license fees as and will receive a dual accreditation status.
Plexent is both an ATO and an AEO.
